Cannes before the chaos

There has been the assumption that by now the world would be watching the glittering celebrities of cinema against the gleaming blue sea and sky of Cannes. But the best-laid plans of even the greatest go wrong, and the wet and windy weather of the last few weeks has continued. Contrary to our last blog, summer is still coming but it has got a little lost en route.  Not only have the expected 45,000 visitors to Cannes had to put up with having their handbags searched by a army of soldiers, police and security people but they have had to find umbrellas as well.

We will be making our trip into Cannes very early on Sunday morning for church and hope to see something of the spectacle. In the meantime, here are some photos taken in the last couple of weeks during what has been a unseasonably protracted spring.  Still given the nasty events that have happened in France over the last year, it’s worth remembering that there are worse things than a bit of cloud and rain.

The Carlton Hotel is normally for fat cats……

And finally… the boat in the background is an anti-poaching boat. No idea what it was doing there.
